About ER Outdoors
ER Outdoors is run by Eluned (Lun) Roberts, a qualified teacher with over 35 years' experience of designing and delivering outdoor learning opportunities for people of all ages from infants to retirees including those with Special Educational Needs. Areas of expertise include fieldwork, learning through adventure, management training, provision of National Governing Body training and assessment courses, and running facilitation and environmental training courses for outdoor practitioners.
In addition, Lun has considerable experience of developing professional practitioners. She mentored students from Bangor University's Outdoor Activities Postgraduate Certificate of Education course for over ten years and has worked as coach and assessor for the Institute for Outdoor Learning's Registered Practitioner (RPIOL) and Accredited Practitioner (APIOL) award schemes for even longer. Between 2009 and 2012 she worked for the Institute as their Professional Development Manager. As the Co-ordinator of IOL Cymru / Wales she is still actively involved in organising CPD opportunities for outdoor practitioners in Wales. She is one of the authors and co-editor of the Environmental Outdoor Learning Cards which were created by the Outdoor Education Advisors' Panel to encourage teachers to use the outdoors as a classroom.
Lun believes in the importance of empowering outdoor professionals to look after their 'office'. To this end she was instrumental in bringing together outdoor professionals, local centres, the British Mountaineering Council, local landowners, Snowdonia National Park and the Countryside Council for Wales (now Natural Resources Wales) to explore ways of promoting sound environmental practice in North West Wales. As part of this work she helped develop resources to guide users of sensitive sites and chaired Sustainable Use of Snowdonia / Mwynhau Eryri'n Gall from its inception until it was replaced by the North Wales Outdoor Environmental Charter Group a few years ago. She remains involved as a member of the Charter's steering group.
